What Makes a Hospital?

Welcome to my first posting on global health issues. Today I came across this blog entry on Time Magazine Online entitled “What Makes a Hospital” – it brings up an interesting thought- what are the basic services that are needed in the developing world? It’s not just the most obvious – human and financial resources. And as we strive to bring resources, services and access to care to the poorest countries, we need to make sure we think about the less obvious things like an ‘autoclave’ for the hospital and laundry machines.

If I wanted to start a hospital in East Africa, I wonder what a list of ‘bare minimums’ would look like…
